‘The Prince and the Angel’ is a 60-page romantic tragedy; the culmination of a six month love-affair with Charles Dickens’ masterpiece novel, ‘David Copperfield’. It summarises the book in fairytale language, and was created during the annual October art challenge, "Inktober".

traditional art techniques (ink on marker paper).

Dickens’ story focuses heavily on two central characters - David Copperfield, the book’s narrator, and James Steerforth, his idol and best friend - and the impact their friendship has both on them and the other characters.

 

My fairytale originally sprang out of a work of Fanfiction of the same name that I wrote back in June 2025, shortly after first reading the book, as part of imagining what a post-humous letter from James might look like looking at the events of their story from his perspective.​​​
